Qufei Chen of the Ottawa RA Badminton Club repeated her triple gold medal performance today at the Black Knight British Columbia Junior Elite Series event. In the Girls Under 16 event, Chen, seeded first overall, defeated third seed Vivian Kwok of Ontario 21-10, 21-8 in the final. In Boys Under 16 action, Benny Lin the fourth seed from British Columbia defeated Joshua Hurlburt-Yu, of Ontario 21-12, 21-17.

In Boys Under 16 Doubles, Benny Lin and Jason Sun of British Columbia defeated Joshua Hurlburt-Yu and Jackie Yeung of Ontario 21-18, 12-21, 21-16.

In Girls Under 19, unseeded Christin Tsai defeated the top seed, Jessica Leung 23-21, 12-21, 21-19 in an all British Columbia final. Clinton Lui of Alberta defeated Clinton Wong of British Columbia in the Boys Under 19 final 17-21, 21-18, 21-16.
Christin Tsai won her second gold medal as she teamed with Jessica Leung to defeat Shannon Saunders and Kacey Kung of Alberta 21-13, 21-15 in Girls Under 19 Doubles. On the Boys Under 19 Doubles side the top seeds, Joseph Donaldson (Alberta) and Nyl Yakura (Ontario) defeated Alberta’s second seeded Clinton Liu and Henry Wiebe 19-21, 21-17, 21-15.
In Under 19 Mixed Doubles, the fourth seeded pair from British Columbia of Nathan Choi and Jessica Leung defeated Eric Hsu and Christin Tsai of British Columbia in a walkover allowing Jessica Leung to emerge as another double gold medalist.
The Singles finals have been set in the Boys Under 16, Under 19 and Girls Under 16 and Under 19 events.
In the Girls Under 16 event, Ottawa’s RA Badminton Club member Qufei Chen, seeded first overall, will meet fellow Vivian Kwok of Ontario (seeded third) in the final after defeating three competitors from British Columbia: Cherie Ho 21-6, 21-4, Joanna Che 21-13, 21-16 and Vanora Lo 22-20, 21-10. Kwok started her trip to the finals by defeating Shirley Guo 19-21, 21-17, 21-12, Emma Lin 21-16, 17-21, 21-12, both of British Columbia and then knocked off the second seed Kally Ho of Ontario 21-12, 22-20.
In Boys Under 16 action, Joshua Hurlburt-Yu, seeded seventh of Ontario will meet Benny Lin, seeded fourth of British Columbia. Hurlburt-Yu defeated James Ho 21-14, 21-9, Matt Downton 21-19, 21-15 and Sam Dunner, 21-10, 21-13 all from British Columbia and the second seed Jackie Yeung of Ontario 21-7, 12-21, 21-19. Lin defeated Jakob Kryczka of Alberta 21-19, 21-16, Victor Yang of British Columbia 21-14, 21-9, and Jerry Zhang of New Brunswick 21-14, 21-11, before defeating the top seed Jason Sun of British Columbia 22-20, 21-17.
In Girls Under 19, the top seed, Jessica Leung of British Columbia cruised into the finals with wins over Mary-Lee Lindeman of Alberta (walkover), Daphne Cheung (British Columbia) 21-10, 21-11 and Ayaka Watatsuki (British Columbia) 21-12, 21-14. Leung will meet unseeded Christin Tsai, also of British Columbia. Tsai defeated Vivian Yan of British Columbia 21-13, 21-13, Christina Giuffre of Alberta (seeded third) 21-4, 21-6 and Fabienne Chan of Ontario 21-9, 21-13.
Clinton Wong of British Columbia will meet Clinton Lui of Alberta in the Boys Under 19 final on Sunday. Wong defeated Nathan Leung (the sixth seed) of Ontario 21-10, 21-11, Matthew Lim of British Columbia 21-16, 21-17, Joseph Donaldson, the second seed from Alberta, 21-18, 17-21, 21-17 before taking out Nelvin Kusnadi of British Columbia 21-12, 21-17.
